The name Carolina MacGillavry should sound familiar to all AUC students, but who was she really? She was the first woman to be admitted to the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, a world renowned crystallographer, and the person who introduced Escher’s work to the United States. For our feminist initiative, we are excited to spend some time on this extremely interesting woman with a guest lecture by Margriet van der Heijden, physicist, journalist, and lecturerer at AUC. She will be talking with us about MacGillavry’s career and how it relates to the experiences of women in STEM in general.
