CUT Collective is very excited to welcome our first guest speaker of the academic year – Indian documentary director Rahul Jain. With his feature-length documentary “Machines” premiering at this year’s IDFA, Jain has flown over from New Delhi to attend the festival, so we are delighted about being able to host him.

“Machines” provides a haunting glimpse into India’s textile industry and the grueling conditions workers are subjected to on an every-day basis. Based on a series of interviews conducted with workers at a factory in Surat, this disturbingly honest documentary is sure to provoke a fevered debate on the ethics behind the world of cheap garment manufacturing industries.

Jain will explain his motivation for the creation of this film, as well as share insight on the specifics of documentary filmmaking. We welcome all those enthusiatic about film, political issues and human rights to join us on this evening to discuss and learn together.
